Kentucky Play in May

Kentucky Festival Season Heats Up with Spring!

Along with beautiful spring weather, festival season is heating up in Kentucky! Hundreds of events are happening throughout the Bluegrass State in May. Sample scrumptious  barbeque in Owensboro at the International Bar-B-Q Festival, listen to the tunes of bluegrass music at festivals, concerts and night clubs and salute our Scottish and mountain roots and heritage. Kentucky towns and cities have festivals celebrating cars, herbs, black bears, cornbread and even chickens. Railroads, brass bands, mountain laurel, arts and crafts give plenty of motivation to join the fun. Check out the calendar of events on our website.

Head Out and Play in Kentucky’s Unbridled May!

It’s time to go outside and soak up some sun and enjoy the greening of our scenic landscape. We have unlimited ways to enjoy the great outdoors with the whole family.

All 52 of our Kentucky State Parks are a great travel value. There is no admission to visit and explore but you’ll want to kick back and stay at one of our 17 state resort parks that include lodges and restaurants. Tee off together at one or more of our 19 golf courses. Some are listed in Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play for 2009. If camping is more your style, pitch a site at our many campgrounds. Forested hills hide caves to explore and surround waterways where fishing, canoeing and white water rafting can add adventure to any trip. Hike in the hills, rock climb in Daniel Boone National Forest or view your world while fishing along one of Kentucky's river banks or lakes. For Kentucky spring, play is the thing!

Sleep in a Wigwam

Shhhh! If you listen closely, you can almost hear the tom-toms!! Kentucky has more than its share of roadside attractions to delight travelers and one of the best is Wigwam Village Inn #2 on Dixie Highway near Cave City. Only one of three that remain of the original seven villages constructed in the southeast and southwest between 1937 and 1949, the domiciles are actually teepees, newly renovated and with period furniture. Just a short jaunt from I-65 (601 North Dixie Hgwy.), this village was one of the first built in the nation and is open year-round, offering a unique atmosphere at economical prices and close to the world-famous Mammoth Cave. A great place for a family vacation, the village was listed on the National Register for Historic Places in 1988. To make reservations, call 270-773-3381. www.wigwamvillage.com/.
