Lake Carnico

Lake Carnico was constructed in 1962 by a group of citizens who purchased land and together with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Kentucky Highway Department, and the "Chain of Lakes" state legislation, built a dam, hosted a contest to name the lake (Carnico is comprised of the CAR of Carlisle and NICO of Nicholas County) and started building properties to line its gorgeous banks to surround today's 105 acres of outdoor recreation in the heart of Nicholas County.
