Pineville is the oldest town in Bell County, founded under the name of Cumberland Ford, because you could cross the river here. Rich in history from the native Americans who first settled or passed through to the early pioneers and settlers traveling on the Wilderness Road to the new land of Kentucky, on to the ebb and flow of Civil War action during the War between the States. Even after that, the stories of the coal miners and their struggles with the mine owners to the current challenges of today's world.
