Pioneer Playhouse Outdoor Theatre

As twilight steals across the Bluegrass, discover the rustic charms of the Pioneer Playhouse-Kentucky's oldest outdoor dinner theatre, a veritable 'time capsule' of summer stock theatre circa the 1950s. Lee Majors, Bo Hopkins, John Travolta and Jim Varney are just a few of the popular names that spent summers here as actors. Browse amid 19th-century antiques, stroll across the comfortable dining area and enjoy a delicious meal with all new menus served with southern hospitality on an outdoor patio setting, or catch a whiff of yuccas in full bloom. Experience outdoor theatre in an authentic setting. From the Box Office (which can be seen in Raintree County starring Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor -1956) to the authentic log cabin used in the movie Pharaoh's Army (starring Kris Kristofferson - 1995), the playhouse is a 'must-see' for movie lovers of all ages. For more than fifty years, Pioneer Playhouse has been performing plays the old-fashioned way-great playwrights, beautiful sets, aspiring actors and actresses, and an appreciative crowd-all gathered together beneath a timeless Kentucky moon! During the summer season, plays are presented nightly (except Sunday and Monday) and are moved indoors in case of rain. Pioneer Playhouse also offers Danville's only campground.
